This play works against both zone & man-on-man defenses & is an "in motion" play.
Setup is simple with 4 out (2 guards & 2 wings) and 1 in (forward at low post weak side)
Play is initiated with a pass by the guard (#1) to the weak side guard (#2) who has lagged slightly to ensure that there is no opportunity for interception.
Immediately following the pass the guard screens down the key to some point midway between the block & the elbow on what is now the weak side. As the movement for the screen starts, the wing (#3) v-cuts towards the basket & up the key off of the screen.
2
The #2 then passes down to the wing (#4) & screens away to the elbow as a second screen for #3.
3
As #3 passes the screen by #1, the #1 cuts to the basket for a pass while the #3 to cut around across the free throw line to the strong side elbow.
4
If there is no pass to #1 the guard cuts back out to the 3 point line to fill up the empty space.
At this stage the #3 will have passed the #2 who cuts to the basket who will simultaneously arrive at the strong side elbow.
This sets up multiple options:
a). Pass into #2 who has cut to the basket for a lay-up
b). Pass to #3 who must be free enough to receive the ball at elbow & shoot.
c). The #4 can bounce or lob pass into the low post (#5) who can either drop step to the basket for a lay-up or redistribute
d). #4 can shoot for a 3 point score
e). Dribble backwards, reverse the ball to #1 who has by now filled the weak side guard position and then run the exact same play to the opposite side (next sequence)
5
Dribble backwards, reverse the ball to #1 who has by now filled the weak side guard position and then run the exact same play to the opposite side.
3 cuts to the basket and 4 goes to the top while the ball is reversed.
6
From here the play is mirrored on the other side of the court.
7
Here are the 5 options again.
In this case, the pass goes to #3 who must be free enough to receive the ball at elbow & shoot.
